CALL FOR PAPERS
2nd
LOGOS Open Workshop on "Cross-Media and Personalized Learning Applications
with Intelligent Content"
(LAIC 2008)
in conjunction with the 13th
International Conference on Artificial Intelligence: Methodology,
Systems, Applications – AI@Work (AIMSA 2008)
04-06 September,
LOCATION:
The Workshop will be held at Grand
Hotel Varna, St. Constantine and Helena Resort, 10 km to the north-east of Varna.
SCOPE:
The 6FP project LOGOS "Knowledge-on-demand for
Ubiquitous Learning" (http://www.logosproject.com)
addresses innovative development of the learning processes components –
resources, services, communication spaces. It contributes to the openness for
ubiquitous learning of the existing large-scale repositories of digitised
information and to the process of its transformation into intelligently
organized learning content. The project focuses also on the learning
communication spaces by integrating web-, digital television and mobile
technologies to support cross-media learning content.
The First LOGOS Open Workshop (LADL 2007,
Due to their complexity and multidisciplinarity the
human learning processes as well as their educational organization are
traditional domain for experimenting and applying Artificial Intelligence
approaches, methods and instruments. The research area “Intelligent Tutoring
Systems” investigates and simulates at least for the last two decades basic
elements of human knowledge acquisition processes like psychological and
cognitive characteristics of human learning, modelling of the concepts and semantic
relations in the acquired knowledge, modelling of personal learning styles,
diagnostics of learners’ knowledge gaps and misconceptions, adaptive methods
for their removal, dynamic creation of learning situations for specific groups
of learners in specific contexts etc.
In the same time current research and development
efforts in the eLearning field often address mainly topics like standardisation
of digital learning materials, their reuse, development of digital learning
repositories etc., aiming at overall automation of the educational phases,
especially in formal education. They materialize in applications, called
Learning Management Systems with mass usage in the world practice of distant
education in colleges and universities. The leading eLearning researchers now
agree that after ‘in-breadth’ success of the field – more and more integrated
information services for the various participants in the educational process –
the area needs further more ‘in-depth’ success, based on better understanding
and adaptation to human learning mechanisms.
The objective of the workshop is to discuss innovative
topics in the development of eLearning systems for cross-media delivery of
learning experiences. It is dedicated both to research approaches enhancing the
embedded intelligence in eLearning practice and to development problems of
learning-on-demand services with cross-media delivery. In this context the
notion of Intelligent Content concerns both creation of pre-structured learning
objects with semantic-sensitive meta-descriptions and active use of
learner-sensitive and context-of-use information for dynamic eLearning
services.
TOPICS:
Relevant topics of the workshop include but are not
limited to:
- Personalization of learning, learner modelling, adaptive
sequencing of learning objects and adaptive instructional planning
- Semiotic and semantic approaches to eLearning
- Ontologies and knowledge technologies for eLearning
applications
- Intelligent organization of learning content
- Intelligent eLearning management
- Semantic Web eLearning services
- Models for effective reuse of learning objects from
digital repositories
- Systems, platforms and learning scenarios for
cross-media learning
- Adaptation of existing metadata models for
cross-media delivery of learning materials
- Authoring of learning materials for cross
media-delivery
- Assessment and validation of cross-media delivery
approaches for learning materials
- Innovative eLearning systems beyond current
state-of-the-art
